Child Activity and Education
• To ensure that the target women are empowered to access livelihoods, social entitlements and quality education and nutrition for their children.
• More than 6.79 lakh was given as educational loan (interest free) to Children of MASS Members for higher education. (248 children repeatedly have got loans). 41 children received higher education fund from PRERANA. Apart from this, grant from US based Indian individuals and Kannadigara Okkuta from UK & from local community to support higher education. Total 180 children received Rs. 4.34 lakh education fund from this.
• With funding support of ‘Every Child’, UK, MASS is implementing an education programme for dalith children in Raibag taluka. Under this programme 47 learning centres are being operating covering 2000 children. A special tuition classes are being conducted to improve children’s performance in the school, especially in Maths, Science and English. MASS has appointed qualified teachers to teach these students. Sports and cultural activities have been included as part of curricula. Also a special residential course has been conducted for 5th grade students to prepare them for an entrance exam for special government residential schools (Navodaya & Murarji Desai etc). Through these schools, the government provides free and high quality education to promising students from poor families. So far, 694 students were trained for the entrance exam and 302 students secured admission in these schools. 34 children are enrolled in CWC sponsorship & getting Rs .1,000/- p.m .The program with ‘Every Child’ started in 2006 and exit from India in September 2015 , as it will transfer its assets to the global alliance.
•MASS independently continue its work in Raibag , Chikodi, Athani & Hukkeri taluka by fund raising from local community & factories. MASS is implementing an education program for dalit children. Under this programme 70 learning centres are being operating covering 2174 children. A special tuition classes are being conducted for 5th grade students to prepare them for an entrance exam for special government residential schools (Navodaya & Murarji Desai etc). Through these schools, the government provides free and high quality education to promising students from poor families. During the period So far, 1173 students were trained for the entrance exam and 262 students secured admission in these schools. 5 children are enrolled in CWC sponsorship & getting Rs .1,000/- p.m, HIV positive 1 child & 1 woman getting pension
